From Connected Shelves to Retail Media: Vusion Presents the AI-Native Store™ at COMPUTEX 2026

  • At COMPUTEX 2026 in Taipei, Guillaume Portier presented Vusion’s vision for intelligent, connected and data-driven physical stores.
  • Connected labels, displays, computer vision and cloud technology can turn real-time store signals into smarter actions.
  • In-store retail media represents a major opportunity to engage shoppers and create measurable value closer to the point of purchase.

Physical stores are entering a new era. At COMPUTEX 2026, Guillaume Portier, EVP Global Partner at Vusion, presented a vision of stores that do more than sell products: they generate data, create engagement and open new revenue opportunities.

While an estimated 70% of retail media spending remains online, between 70% and 80% of retail purchases still happen in stores. Closing that gap requires a new digital infrastructure capable of understanding activity in the store and engaging shoppers at the moments that matter.

Building the Data Foundation of the Store

Vusion combines IoT devices, cloud technology, computer vision, wireless communication, big data and AI in a single platform designed for physical retail.

Electronic shelf labels are an essential part of this infrastructure, but they are only the beginning. Connected rails, cameras, large-format displays and other IoT devices enable the store to sense what is happening in real time.

The cloud then transforms these signals into data, insights and actions that can help retailers:

  • Improve price agility and accuracy.
  • Maintain a more accurate view of shelf inventory.
  • Support associates in executing tasks at the shelf.
  • Turn stores into local fulfillment hubs for online orders.
  • Strengthen assortment, merchandising and compliance.

Together, these capabilities create the foundation for a store that can understand its environment and respond more intelligently.

From Digital Price Tags to Engagement Solutions

Electronic shelf labels are no longer simply price automation systems. Equipped with technologies such as QR codes, NFC and Bluetooth Low Energy, they can become interactive touchpoints connecting shoppers, products and the retailer’s digital ecosystem.

Combined with larger color displays, these connected devices can support a continuous communication journey throughout the store: from the entrance to the aisle and, ultimately, to the product itself.

A shopper might first see a campaign on an entrance display, encounter it again in the aisle and then receive relevant information or an offer near the shelf through the retailer’s app. They could also tap or scan a shelf label to learn more about a product.

This creates new opportunities to provide the transparency shoppers increasingly expect, including information about ingredients, allergens, sustainability or product origins, directly at the point of decision.

Turning the Store Into a Measurable Media Channel

“Advertisement is just advertisement, but retail media is much more than that. Retail media relies on data.”

Retail media becomes more valuable when retailers and brands can understand how shoppers engage with a campaign.

Connected store infrastructure can help measure the journey from exposure and traffic to interaction and conversion. This brings the physical store closer to the measurability associated with digital commerce, while reaching shoppers where most purchasing decisions still take place.

For retailers, this represents an opportunity to transform the store into a powerful media asset. For brands, it creates more relevant ways to engage shoppers close to the shelf. For customers, it can deliver timely information and offers that support rather than interrupt the shopping journey.

The development of larger, full-color ePaper displays is accelerating this opportunity. Building on more than a decade of collaboration with E Ink, Vusion is extending connected communication beyond the shelf to new formats throughout the store.

From Connected Stores to AI-Native Stores™

Retail media is one application of a broader transformation.

By combining store, shelf, inventory and shopper data, retailers can provide more useful recommendations to headquarters, store managers and associates. Stores can operate with greater accuracy, improve merchandising and execute campaigns with more relevance.

This is the evolution toward what Vusion calls the AI-Native Store™: a store capable of sensing and understanding its environment, acting proactively and supporting associates with timely, data-driven recommendations.

The objective is not technology for its own sake. It is to make physical commerce more efficient, more engaging and more human-centered.

Reimagining the Role of the Physical Store

Guillaume Portier’s presentation at COMPUTEX showed how connected infrastructure can expand the role of the store.

The physical store can become an operational asset, a local e-commerce hub, a source of real-time data and a measurable media channel. By connecting activity across the entrance, aisle and shelf, retailers can create better experiences for shoppers while unlocking new value for associates, brands and the business.
